How Max Chose Us: A Daughter’s Wish and the Universe’s Perfect Plan

At the time, in 2018, I was travelling a lot for my work. We were living in Mumbai. I would be unavailable for like 3/4 days every week, and my daughter, Arya, would be distraught because of my unavailability. Being a single parent, I couldn’t help it. Had to go. Of course, my mother would be with Arya, along with a full-time maid, who would cook and take care of them when I was not around, as well as drop Arya off and pick her up from where her school bus would drop her off. My family at that time consisted of 3 generations – My mother, myself, and my daughter. An all-women team.

During that time, Arya would be pestering me about having a pet. She wanted a dog. And I would let her know how it was not possible. I would let her know that since we are living in an apartment, having a dog may not be welcome by others living in the building. The dog will keep barking, will need to take him for walks, will make a mess, etc, along with my unavailability. Yet she didn’t give up the idea. So, I tried to cover with a tiny turtle. And my, how she took care of her turtle! But.. still.. she wanted a dog. Period.

So.. to demotivate her a little, I put up some terms and conditions. That she could have a dog, if we live in an individual house(on a site), where there is space around the house and a terrace where there is space for it to run and play. The dog should not have long hair, and it should not drool too much. Also, she will take full responsibility for its food, cleanliness, etc, and not have her grandma, me, or our help to take care of her pet. My Arya was only 8 years old. But she agreed 100%.

She researched and researched and zeroed in on a Doberman Pinscher! It fits all aspects of my requirements for a pet dog! And she proudly explained why the Doberman is the best choice by showing me her research data.

And how the Universe manifested her wish. It was so strong. She convinced me, and out of guilt for not being around for long stretches of time during the week, I told her we’d go to a pet store and check if there were any puppies available.

That day, when I took Arya out, while walking around, we both saw a pet store. Arya looked at me excitedly. I just couldn’t overlook that. So, we went in. It was a random store we were passing by, and I was hoping the person at the counter would say there were no pups available. Instead, when I asked, he called another fellow. Though he told us he couldn’t promise, which I felt too, as to how could there be one soon as you enquired? But.. it was God’s plan.

The person whom the shop guy called said there was a 2-month-old pup, a Doberman pinscher, that we may take a look at!! Out of all breeds available, it had to be a Doberman pinscher! Wow!

He even had the owner of the pup send a few videos of the pup!! And the puppy was so adorable!! Arya couldn’t stop jumping. She was so thrilled, super excited! And I was happy to see her so happy. I asked the pet store person if we could see the puppy. He obliged and contacted the owner of the pup. Within 2 hours, the puppy was in Arya’s lap. Arya was so so happy! The look on her face was priceless! So.. there it was. Now an integral member of our family. This was a difficult time for us, where there was no one supporting or standing by us. However, this pup decided to be with us..

I negotiated for the price of the puppy and paid the owner. He gave all the vaccine, medical details already given to the puppy, and initial instructions for things to purchase for the pup, which we did immediately.

How strong was Arya’s desire to have a dog that it not only manifested her having him, but also us shifting to an individual house!! Where there was a lot of space around! Within 2 weeks of getting the pet, we shifted to a tiny independent house near her school down south. And her puppy neither drooled nor shed too much hair! All my conditions were fulfilled by the Universe for Arya.. I felt it was the Universe that was protecting my Arya, not me.. I was just a channel..

Arya named her pup “Max”. And he truly is a blessing to this day. Arya became such a responsible child. She took care of Max’s needs as if it were her own little brother. 100% responsible. She became quite sensible and felt safe with Max around. And he was a funny little guy. Dobermans are said to be very gentle and extremely territorial. They’re the best Guard dogs.

A wise person once said that it is not “you” who goes and brings the “pet”.. it is the “pet” who decides to come to you.. It is the “only” breed that leaves its own kind to be with you, love you, protect you, stay loyal to you, and maybe die for you if needed.. I mean, who does that! Blessed are those whom these beautiful pets choose..

So there it is. As days and months went by, it was Max who was protecting our home and us. He became so big and strong that people stay away. The tiniest sound and he’ll run barking everywhere. As it is said, when there is no one around to protect you, there is God. In some form or other, he will be there for you. Such is my deeply grateful journey. Now, I could sleep peacefully knowing Max is around us.

Today, he’s a healthy 7-year-old big guy. An Alpha. Will do anything to protect the ones he loves!

It goes without saying that I’d rather have a loyal dog to protect my family than people!
