Hugo Brown’s journey with Mr. Rahul Ghose is filled with love, adventure, and unbreakable bonds.
Whoever said Dogs are a man’s best friend, could not have been more right. Meet Mr. Hugo Brown. At just 3 days old, we found Hugo along with his two sisters next to their disabled mother at a filthy construction site. We nurtured the three puppies for 15 days until they regained their health. Hugo had a distinct, confident walk, stomping his front feet as if announcing his arrival. Of the three (the other two now adopted), little Hugo Brown became my favourite.
Hugo has several nicknames: “Fuflie,” “Hugu puppy,” “Cooklu,” and “Gumpi.” He is so mischievous! When scolded, he amusingly pretends not to hear, looking everywhere but at you. Hugo loves playing fetch, tug-of-war, and hide-and-seek. Hugo does this “worship dance” when given a treat he loves, enthusiastically circling around it before relishing it. He loves walks and his enthusiasm leads him to pull at times. He is my darling and is allowed access everywhere in the house.
Hugo enjoys eating “Curdy” (curd) and turkey, but separately. His favourite vacation spot is Della Resorts in Lonavala. The phrase, “Do you want to go outie” is his absolute favourite! He is very generous with his kisses but gets annoyed at a particular crow that refuses to fly away when he barks at it through the kitchen window. I speculate they might have had some enmity in a previous life. when they meet.
At age 3, Hugo is a ladies’ man with three girlfriends, acting casual and nonchalant when they meet. He loves long drives, sticking his head out the window with his ears flapping in the breeze. Few things make my day like Hugo’s excited greeting when I come home, jumping up and down. Once, he even helped rescue a neighbour’s dog “Charlie”, who had been accidentally locked in a garage, thanks to his intuition and intelligence.
Hugo’s collar reads, “Daddy’s Darling,” and we have a great time traveling and visiting Bandra eateries like Tanjore Tiffin Room and Brew Dog, and bars too! His morning ritual involves sunbathing after I wish him “good morning, Hugo”; He loves belly rubs, which are non-negotiable, and detests being moved while sleeping. Hugo has an enormous appetiteand can eat a whole birthday cake or have four dinners at once!
To me, Hugo is my world. I plan my life around his comfort and happiness. If Hugo could read greeting cards, mine would say, “My heart will always wear the pawprints left by you.”
