Aseptic packaging innovation brings fresh, preservative-free pet nutrition to India without refrigeration at scale
Drools Pet Food Pvt. Ltd. has announced a ₹180 crore investment to enter India’s emerging fresh pet food segment, in collaboration with Tetra Pak. This move introduces aseptic carton-based fresh pet food using Tetra Recart®—marking a first for Asia and signalling a major shift in how pet nutrition is produced and delivered.

The new range includes real-ingredient recipes like chicken with vegetables, turkey, pumpkin, and even chicken biryani, available in 150g and 350g packs. Designed to be preservative-free and shelf-stable without refrigeration, the innovation addresses a key challenge in India—cold-chain dependency—while maintaining freshness and safety through advanced retort technology.
With India’s pet food market growing at 11–16% CAGR, this launch taps into rising “pet humanisation” and demand for premium, home-style nutrition. Backed by investors like L Catterton and Nestlé S.A., Drools continues to push category boundaries.

PetzCare India View: This is not just product innovation—it’s category creation. By removing cold-chain barriers, Drools is democratising fresh pet food for India at scale. The real impact will depend on consumer education, pricing strategy, and how quickly retail adapts to this new format.
